Reese Carmen Villella (she/her) is a playwright and filmmaker based in NYC, originally from the DC area. In May 2025, she graduated from NYU, where she studied subversive storytelling. As an artist, she is passionate about queer and female-centric narratives, body horror, and knowing how to have fun. She also interned in the script department at Saturday Night Live for its 50th season.
As a filmmaker, she has written and directed three short films. Her plays have been presented at venues across NYC, including The Red Pavilion, The Tank, The Chain, The Hudson Guild, Frigid Under St. Marks, The Producer’s Club, and at NYU.
In 2026, she founded her production company Mother Of LLC.
When not writing for stage or screen, she regularly posts on her Substack (Holy Wound), where she publishes poetry, short stories, essays, and more. She is also Senior Culture and Politics Staff Writer for Gut Instinct Media. She has been featured in publications such as Active Chapter, Four Tulips, and NYU's Confluence. In 2022, she released her first poetry collection, 'Piles of Cherry Pits,' and her second, 'Erot,' is set for release in early 2026.
She cites Sofia Coppola as a major influence when she wants to sound normal, and Julia Ducornau and Gaspar Noé as inspirations when she’s in a safe space.
